I recently bought this product and had no problem installing the software and hardware. The drive read CD quietly. Ive used it under windows 98se and windows xp and it works great!!! I use fujifilm all purpose cdrs with it. I recommend checking the packaging on your cdrs and cdrws for _made in Japan_ to insure compatability...

I have used LaCie drives before in the past and I have been impressed. Unfortunetly this product does not properly fit inside of an Apple G5. When I try to eject the drive, it gets stuck unless I manually force it out. There is no problem with the drive itself, its simply a flaw in the design of G5,..
